Water Baptism
Water Baptism is your opportunity to let people know your commitment to follow Jesus.
It’s not about perfection, rather a step of obedience in your new relationship with Jesus.
Getting Baptised at Richmond Baptist
We hold special Baptism services where we bring Baptism tanks into the auditorium and baptise people as a part of our Sunday service. At these services you can expect live worship, people cheering for you as well as a time of prayer following your baptism.
We recommend booking an appointment to chat to our pastors about why baptism is so special and important in the life of a follower of Jesus.
What is baptism?
Baptism is the physical act of being submerged under water and is a public expression of a deeper spiritual reality in the Christian faith. It is an outward display of your inward commitment of faith.
Why be baptised?
Jesus commands every believer to be baptised (Matthew 28:19-20), so we encourage all believers who have accepted Jesus as their Lord and Saviour to be baptised. Even Jesus was baptised as an example for us to follow (Matthew 3:13-17). Baptism is an important part of our faith journey and needs to be done sooner rather than later.
Why be baptised by immersion?
We baptise by immersion because baptism means immersion. That's why Baptists do not sprinkle water on someone's head or pour water over them, but a believer goes into the water to be fully immersed in order to be baptised.
Is baptism necessary to become a member of Richmond Baptist Church?
The Governing Document of Richmond Baptist Church allows the Elders to use wisdom and discretion in accepting people into membership who have not been baptised as believers by immersion.
I’m ready to be baptised. What’s my next step?
Contact one of the Pastors, Elders or the church office, and we’ll work with you for you to take that next step. Together we can decide where and when your baptism occurs as we like to let our community know, as the church loves to celebrate with you. You can be baptised at church, at the beach, in a pool, in a river, or wherever there is sufficient water to get you under and back up again. We look forward to working with you for this exciting obedient step in faith.
